Autism in the Age of Collapse: A Nervous System That Refuses To Conform

Autism is not a puzzle to solve, a glitch in development, or a mistake in biology, it is a mirror— and the reason we struggle to understand it is because we are terrified of what it reflects.

Across cultures, disciplines, and time, neurodivergence has been seen as a form of difference that either threatens the established order or births a new one. Whether cast as prophetic, rebellious, feral, or broken, the autistic nervous system does not comply with the social contract of collapse; and that alone makes it sacred.

In a world that rewards performative regulation over honest sensitivity, the nervous system that cannot conform becomes either pathologized or punished. But from an Ayurvedic, Vedic, and indigenous standpoint, this nervous system may not be a disorder at all. It may be a form of nervous system integrity and a radical resistance to disembodiment, exploitation, and separation.

I’m not saying that this means it’s easy or that there isn’t real pain, imbalance, or support needed..…
