access, and physiological stress responses are organized around maintaining closeness to whoever holds authority over resources, narrative, or social standing within a given hierarchy. It is a structural analysis tool, not a moral assessment.

The term “alpha” in this framework refers to a position, not a person. It identifies the peak of any given hierarchy— the point from which resources are distributed downward and from which compliance is required upward. This position exists in every organized human system.

In a workplace it is held by whoever controls employment.

In a family it is held by whoever controls belonging.

In a legal system it is held by whoever controls documentation and rights.

In a nation-state it is held by whoever controls the terms of citizenship.

The specific holder of the position changes across contexts. The structural function of the position does not.

Within any hierarchy, each level performs compliance for the level above it while administering compliance from the level below it. This dynamic operates simultaneously across every axis mapped in this audit. The form that compliance takes varies by context —productivity in labor systems, social legibility in cultural systems, legal documentation in civic systems— but the structural mechanism is consistent.

This audit does not assess individual worth, potential, or moral standing. It does not rank the legitimacy of one person’s structural conditions against another’s. It is a mapping tool designed to locate an individual’s current coordinates across ten documented axes of structural proximity. Some of those coordinates reflect inherited conditions— race, body, passport, family wealth, religion, nation of birth. Others reflect positions an individual has moved into over time in response to available incentives. This audit maps both.

Each axis operates on a 0–10 scale. A higher score on any axis reflects greater proximity to the population for whom that axis’s systems were designed. Greater proximity does not indicate greater freedom. It indicates greater dependency on the conditions that produce and maintain that proximity. An individual whose chart extends toward the outer edge on every axis holds the most structural advantage and the highest exposure to loss if that advantage shifts.

The audit’s primary function is visibility. Structural position shapes behavior, access, and risk in documented and measurable ways. This tool is designed to make that position legible.

<picture></picture>

<g></g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

HOW PROPORTIONATELY ACCURATE IS THE CHART?

The chart compresses scale for readability. On the Wealth axis, an accurate proportional rendering would place approximately 97% of the global population at or near zero. Rendered as true 3D topography, the peak would sit at 30,000 feet while a household earning $200,000 per year would sit at approximately 6 feet.

This compression applies to every axis. A position at Level 9 on any axis carries significant structural advantage relative to lower positions but remains several orders of magnitude removed from the peak. Proximity to the peak is not the same as occupancy of it.

The concept of the middle class functions as a perceptual reference point that causes individuals at mid-range positions to identify upward rather than laterally or downward. This identification pattern is documented as a primary stabilizing mechanism of hierarchical systems globally.

HOW ARE THE LEVELS DETERMINED?

Levels 0–10 are anchored in global economic and sociological data including World Bank poverty thresholds, Gini Coefficient wealth distributions, the Henley Passport Index, UNHCR statelessness data, the Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances, Bureau of Labor Statistics, UN Human Development Index, Mercer Quality of Living Index, Henley Global Citizens Report, APA DSM pathologization history, Williams Institute data, WHO Global Burden of Disease data, Pew Research Center religious influence data, and National Academy of Sciences research.

WHAT ARE THE LEVELS?

The following descriptions represent generalized structural positions. The structural function at this position is containment or elimination. Represented across every axis.

LEVEL 1: BARE THRESHOLD— Legal removability, institutional exclusion, and biological survival as the primary operational condition. No surplus exists — financial, legal, social, or biological. Represented across every axis.

LEVEL 2: EXTRACTED WITHOUT RETURN— Labor and biological output flow upward with no reciprocal accumulation downward. Participation in the system is required. Ownership of its returns is structurally blocked. Represented across every axis.

LEVEL 3: PERMITTED, NOT PROTECTED— Presence inside the system is granted. Legal, social, and institutional protection within it is conditional on continued compliance. Represented across every axis.

LEVEL 4: HIGH-PERFORMANCE BUFFER— High output required to maintain position. The margin between this level and the floor is structurally thin regardless of income, credential, or social standing. Represented across every axis.

LEVEL 5: FUNCTIONAL INTEGRATION AT COST— Full participation in the system is real and sustained at a continuous biological, economic, or social cost that is not reimbursed by the system producing it. Represented across every axis.

LEVEL 6: CONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE— Access is granted. The conditions attached to maintaining it are structural, documented, and not publicly acknowledged as conditions. Represented across every axis.

LEVEL 7: MANAGED PROXIMITY— Significant structural advantage present. Operating inside the system’s administrative logic with documented costs to exit or deviate from the position’s prescribed function. Represented across every axis.

LEVEL 8: LOAD-BEARING INFRASTRUCTURE— The default position the system’s global structures were designed around and calibrated to serve. Extracts from below. Serves above. Does not own the structure it maintains. Represented across every axis.

LEVEL 9: ENFORCEMENT CLASS— Granted authority to administer and enforce the system’s rules over lower positions. Status is real and contingent on continued service to the peak. Represented across every axis.

LEVEL 10: ALPHA ARCHITECTURE— Defines the rules, the currency, the standards, and the classifications every other level is measured against. Fewer than 60,000 individuals globally hold this position across all axes simultaneously. Represented across every axis.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Get a usable copy of the chart below— download the PDF, screenshot the image, or print it out.

Locate your coordinates— for each of the ten axes, identify which level most accurately describes your current lived reality and mark it as a point on the chart.

Identify the gap— connect the points to see the shape of your proximity map. Note where your levels are high and where they are low. The space between a high-ranking axis and a low-ranking axis is the Extraction Gap — the area where the greatest differential between your output and your structural return is occurring.

Reality check— the outermost ring on every axis represents the specific population the system was designed around. The further your chart extends toward that outer edge, the more structural advantage your documentation, family wealth, body, and social classification carry.

Audit the shape— use the final visual to identify the overall shape of your proximity map. Structural position shapes behavior, access, and risk in documented ways. Locating your position is the first step toward understanding which axes are driving your decisions and at what cost.

Click here for the blank chart and a few examples of what it looks like filled out by different users:
